How to restore your glass

The best way to keep your glass sparkling clean is to protect it when it’s brand new - and unused! But we often don’t think about it until the shower glass is looking opaque, or we notice the watermarks on the pool fence (or outdoor balustrades).

Damage can start to happen within just weeks after new glass is installed, especially for outdoor glass and if you’re on the coast with sea spray in play. Case in point - this pool balustrade our approved applicators restored only 4 months after it was installed.

DIY

If you’re into a bit of DIY, you can start with a glass restoration kit.

You have two options here: restoring your glass by hand or using an orbital sander. Which you choose depends on how damaged your glass is and how comfortable you are on the tools.

By hand

Apply Eurocoat rejuvenator to a scourer. As a general guide, use our white scourer pads for lightly damaged/stained surfaces or blue scourer pads for heavily damaged surfaces. Apply thoroughly to a small A4-sized section of glass, using a swirling motion for 2-3 minutes. Work your way over the rest of the glass surface, one patch at a time.

Once you’ve covered the whole surface, clean your glass with soapy water and a microfibre cloth. Rinse your glass off and use a squeegee to remove excess water.

Orbital sander

An orbital sander can be picked up from your local hardware store, such as Bunnings or Mitre 10. A standard 150mm diameter sander will do the trick. Orbital sanders rotate elliptically to create a smooth surface and buff out any damage in your glass. This will give you the best results, especially for heavily damaged glass.

Attach the scourer in your restoration kit to your orbital sander - use our white scourer pads for lightly damaged/stained surfaces or blue scourer pads for heavily damaged surfaces. Apply Eurocoat rejuvenator and slowly go over the glass, first vertically and then horizontally, covering as much of the surface as you can. Apply more product to the scourer as needed.

Finish the remaining edges that were missed by hand, using the scourer in a swirling motion as per the above instructions.
